Transportation from Wattay International Airport to Vientiane center

Wattay International Airport is only 5 km west of Vientiane center, so you have several transportation options.

Taxi

Taxis are the most popular and convenient way to travel from the airport to Vientiane center. You can choose between a 4-seater taxi for 57,000 Kip (~70,000 VND) or a 7-seater taxi for 66,000 Kip (~80,000 VND), depending on the number of people traveling with you. The taxi ticket counter is located inside the terminal, near the baggage claim area. After purchasing your ticket, the driver will assist you with your luggage and lead you to the taxi. It's important to note that only cash payments are accepted, and you can use Lao Kip (LAK) or US dollars.

Bus

Buses are a cost-effective and convenient option for traveling from the airport to downtown Vientiane. Buses depart every 40 minutes with a fare of 15,000 Kip (~18,000 VND). You can purchase tickets inside the airport or directly on the bus.

The journey from the airport to the central bus station takes 30 minutes. The central bus station is located in Section A, where most hotels are concentrated. After arriving at the central station, you can continue to Section B, which includes ITECC shopping center and other stops, by paying an additional 4,000 Kip (~5,000 VND).

The bus station is on the right side of the terminal exit, approximately 30 meters away. You can easily identify the station by signs saying "Bus Stop" or "Airport Bus Service." Note that buses operate from 9:15 AM to 9:15 PM.

Tuk Tuk

If you prefer a flexible and quick transportation option from the airport to downtown Vientiane, Tuk Tuk service is a good choice. From the terminal, just walk about 200 meters outside the airport where you'll find many Tuk Tuks waiting. Taking a Tuk Tuk to the city center typically takes about 15 minutes and the fare is usually about half the price of a taxi, but remember that bargaining is crucial.

Please note that this mode of transportation is only suitable for those with minimal luggage as you'll need to walk a considerable distance from the terminal to where the Tuk Tuks are gathered. If you have a lot of luggage, this may be challenging and tiring.
